Shapr3d models imported to Jig Workshop?

Can One create 3D objects in Shapr3D app and then use it here ??

Hi Amanveer Welcome to the community.

Absolutely! Shapr3D exports to OBJ, STEP and STL files. These are the file types Jig Workshop currently supports. To export your model in Shapr3D there is an icon with an up arrow in the top left corner.

Inside the new window up the top is a button format this will show you a list of file formats you can pick from.

Export your file to device and then import into Jig Workshop.

Hi Pete.

A follow up question on that one:
I´m not sure if the issue is in shapr3d or JIG but:

  1. Why is the OBJ files exported from shapr3d importet to small?
(What units are used and is it possible to change this?)
  2. Why are the STEP files not smoth?
  3. WHy is the orientation wrong? Shapr3d use the Z axis as vertical.

Last question:
Is it possible to export the files created in JIG ? as Textured OBJ or USDZ file to be used programs like Reality Converter or used in a webpage?

Hi VassiSolutions.

The reason .OBJ’s are so small when exported from Shapr3D is because their OBJ exporter creates a unitless file type. From what I’ve gathered on their forums you may be able to fix this by setting the Unit scale in Shapr3D to mm (millimeters) before exporting.

If this doesn’t work I would recommend scaling up the file using a free program like Blender.

We currently don’t have any adjustable scale settings when importing files, the JigWorkshop just reads the information that is given. We are adding more features here soon though, and will keep you posted when these are close to being released.

The reason STEP files exported from Shapr3D have sharp angles instead of smooth edges is because they offer medium quality STL files for free and high quality STL files are a feature of their paid Pro License package.

The Medium quality deflection angle is 45 degrees, while High quality is 5 degrees.

The reason Orientation is wrong is a problem that often arises between 3D programs as many of them use the Z and Y axis interchangeably. It might be that our rotations aren’t compatible and if that’s the case rotating it 90 degrees in blender may be a quick solution.

We aren’t able to export files from the Workshop yet, but we are interested in creating this as a feature in the future. For now you should be able to set your Jig to public and share a link to it online. Anyone with an iPad or iPhone will be able to tap on the link and instantly view your Jig.
